I sent my ~4ish year old pit bull to K9 Command for a 4 week rehab board and train due to reactivity, redirecting on our other dog when overwhelmed and having issues with one of our cats. It was the best decision that I ever made!! She has come back as a confident dog who listens, can now walk by other dogs with confidence and no reaction, and has a better relationship with our other dog and cat. My experience with the team was excellent! They are great with communication and updates while she was with them. They have a wonderful ability to explain why and what they are doing so the owners understand and help things to “stick” in your mind. They give lots of information, which can be overwhelming, yet are always there to answer your questions.
They do not play the blame game and shame the owner for the past.
In fact, they needed to remind me of this a couple of times as I was blaming myself and needed to get out of that mind-set. They are only looking at the future and creating a successful relationship with the owner and the dog. They are not a one way is the only way type of trainer. They look at the individual dogs needs and bring in the various tools/training that works best. They are balanced trainers that use positive/treat based methods along with communication tools which gives the dog a clear understanding of what is being asked of them.
They are patient and really understand what the dog needs in order to succeed.
Now the best part…when you dog comes home. You will experience some regression as both you and the dog learn the new rules and expectations. Not to worry, the team is there to walk you through the training that you as an owner will need to keep up in order to continue having a great dog. It’s not just a drop off and here you go…good luck. They are invested in you and the dog and always available to talk through any issues that come up. Yes, this is a long review, yet I could continue to say so much more as they will be the ones that I whole-heartedly recommend to everyone that asks me how I have gotten my dog to behave so well. The answer will always be K9 Command and lots of continued practice. One last thing that needs to be said is they keep the dogs in their home. Not an outdoor kennel. They are the only ones that I know of that do that. The dogs continue to learn the correct way to be in a home with lots of things going on around them, other dogs, kids, etc. They only take a certain number of dogs at a time so get on their books early!
